Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI Scan)

MRI uses radio-frequency waves and strong magnetic field to provide remarkably clear and detailed pictures of internal organs and tissues. It requires specialized equipment and expertise and allows evaluation of some body structures that may not be as visible with other imaging methods.

  

MRI Scanning is commonly used to examine the brain, spine, joints, upper and lower limbs, abdomen and pelvis.

MRI scans of brain is commonly done for brain tumors, strokes, and chronic disorders of the nervous system such as multiple sclerosis. brain abnormalities in patients with dementia, diseases of the pituitary gland and disease of the eyes and the inner ear. MR angiography is done to study the blood vessels of the brain.

MRI of spine is done for bulging, or herniated intervertebral disks, post-operative scarring, infection, tumors, birth defects and spinal injuries.
