Angiography
Angiography is done to image blood vessels in various parts of the body to determine whether they are narrowed, enlarged or blocked altogether. Angiography requires passing special tubes called catheters and injection of contrast (dye) into blood vessels to make them visible in the x-ray images. Angiographic studies have been largely replaced by safer methods, such as computed tomography and magnetic resonance angiography. Catheter angiography is still widely used in patients who undergo procedures such as balloon angioplasty, stent placement and bypass surgery.
