Retinal Detachment

Retinal detachment is a separation of nerve layer (retina) from the eye ball. It is a serious eye condition which must be treated immediately to prevent loss of eye sight. Patients with high degree of short-sightedness have higher risk of Retinal Detachment.

Sign and symptom:

  • Seeing flashes or floaters (floating black spots in the eyes) is a warning sign of retinal detachment.
  • Seeing a shadow in your vision (often see as a ‘veil’)

Early diagnosis and treatment with laser or surgery is essential to prevent blindness.

Treatment Options:

  • Laser photocoagulation

    • An outpatient procedure undertaken using local anesthetics drops.

  • Surgical repair
